Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salts)

Product Information

Magnesium sulfate (magnesium sulphate) MgSO4 commonly known as Epsom Salts, has a variety of uses.  It is an important source of magnesium and sulphur to correct deficiencies in the soil. It is most often used on potted plants and magnesium-hungry crops such as tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and roses. I great advantage is its high solubility which makes it possible to use as a foliar feed. Other advantages are the fact that is almost neutral compared to other sources of magnesium therefore not changing the PH of the soil.

Epsom salt has, for some time, been used in bath salts where it has been found to soothe sore muscles, it is also used in beauty products and it is the product used in flotation tanks (isolation tanks) for flotation therapy. High concentrations raise the specific gravity of the water making the body more buoyant and it also prevents the temporary wrinkling of the skin through prolonged immersion in water.

Salt water aquariums containing corals become depleted of magnesium during their calcification process this changes the alkalinity causing precipitation of calcium carbonate. Magnesium sulfate stabalises these ions in the salt water.
